MEDIAN TIME TO DEGREE
Sports Product Design is the creation of innovative products through research and iteration. The program focuses on problem identification, ideation, materials, prototyping, development, validation, production and marketing specific to the sports industry. The Master of Science program prepares students to be key members and leaders of multidisciplinary teams within the 800+ sports product companies located in Oregon and beyond globally. The Department of Product Design has included the design of sports gear in their curriculum since 2008 - winning their first national student design award for the Oregon Manifest bicycle design and prototype. The department has also pioneered adaptive products while working in partnership with local athletes to manifest their full sports potential. Entering students equipped with conceptual problem-solving abilities, knowledge of materials and production, strategies for emotional product resonance and relevance, and entrepreneurial skills will have their designer’s toolboxes enhanced with a deep, specific study of sports product creation methods, 3D technologies, human physiology, biomechanics, and perception. The University of Oregon's Sports Product Design Master's program aims to develop the next generation of innovators to inspire athletes around the world to play harder, run faster, and push the boundaries of sport. Students who graduate from this program will be capable of making strong contributions to the sports design culture of Oregon and the world at large.
