Overview

Succeeding as Ourselves Academic Resource (SOAR) Award supports the academic and professional development of Promising Scholar Award recipients.

Eligibility: Participants must have received a Promising Scholar Award. Priority will be given to the most recent recipients.

Requirements: Selected participants must attend a professional development, academic, or mentoring training opportunity once per term for three consecutive terms. By the end of the year, participants must submit a short write up that includes an initial reflection, a list of the trainings/development opportunities in which they participated, an artifact showcasing the application of a skill gained, and a final reflection.

SOAR Award Showcase

SOAR Award Showcase features presentations from past SOAR Awardees sharing insights in their professional development and training journey.

The event is intended to showcase the variety of ways SOAR recipients have grown over their year of SOAR development by creating an intimate space of gathering, sharing scholarly engagements and research, and enjoying a meal together. 

Activities funded by SOAR award in the past include:

-Completing the Accessibility Ally Program by the Accessible Education Center, UO
-Completing Mentoring trainings, LinkedIn Learning
-Attending the Society for Molecular Biology & Evolution Conference, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico
-Attending the Indigenous Artificial Intelligence Conference,  Aotearoa
-Attending the Cherokee Scholars Conference, Harvard University
-Attending the Zotero Info Workshop, Knight Library, UO
-Attending the Report-back Training Workshop, the Silent Spring Institute
