Doctoral candidates must complete the equivalent of at least 81 quarter credits of graduate-level work beyond the baccalaureate degree, over the course of at least three calendar years.
This 81 credit minimum must consist of:
- 27 UO credits taken while classified as a doctoral student in your current program (see Doctoral Residency Requirements).
- UO credits taken as a master's student may count toward the residency requirement under certain conditions
- 36 additional credits, which may consist of any combination of:
- UO credits taken as a master's student
- graduate credits from another university (see Transfer of Credit - Doctoral Students)
- Additional UO graduate credits taken while classified as a doctoral student
- 18 credits of Dissertation (603) (This does not apply to the the DMA in music performance – refer to the School of Music and Dance website for details).
These are minimum university requirements. Some doctoral programs may have higher credit requirements. Refer to the website of your specific program for details.
