Official Transcript Requirement

Official Transcript Requirement - New for admissions in 2023

At the time of application, applicants must submit unofficial transcripts from all colleges or universities previously attended, including the University of Oregon. Unofficial transcripts are uploaded as part of the online application.

Unofficial transcripts should show all coursework taken to date and, if a degree was earned, the title of the degree and the date the degree was conferred. Applicants must provide English translations if the documents are issued in a language other than English.

Applicants who accept their offer of admission and matriculate must submit official transcripts from all colleges or universities from which they received a bachelor’s degree or higher. Official transcripts received will be compared to the unofficial transcripts submitted as part of the application. If unofficial transcripts are later determined to be a forgery, or, if official transcripts are not submitted, your admission will be rescinded. Transcripts must show the title of the degree earned and the date the degree was conferred. Students admitted with in-progress coursework or requirements for bachelor’s level degrees must have their degree conferred prior to the beginning of their term of admission at UO. Transcripts are subject to review and verification of authenticity.

  • In cases where documents are not issued in English, applicants must submit certified word-for-word English translations of all documents.
  • Some graduate programs may require additional sets of official or unofficial transcripts to be submitted directly to the department. This may include transcripts from institutions where you did not earn a degree. Please check with your prospective program for information about their requirements.
  • Transcripts are to be submitted to the Office of the Registrar—please do not send transcripts to the Division of Graduate Studies.
  • Transcripts submitted to the University of Oregon become the property of the University of Oregon and cannot be returned to the applicant.

How to Submit Official Transcripts

Option 1

You ask your previous institution to send an official transcript directly to the University of Oregon in a sealed envelope that bears a seal, stamp or official signature from the institution across the back flap of the envelope.

Option 2

You obtain an official transcript from your previous institution in a sealed envelope that bears a seal, stamp or official signature from the institution across the back flap of the envelope.

You place that envelope, unopened, into a larger envelope and mail the transcript to the University of Oregon.

Mail to:
Office of the Registrar

Eugene, OR 97403

Please do not send transcripts to the Division of Graduate Studies.

Option 3

If your degree institution offers official electronic copies sent by a secured provider (e.g., National Student Clearinghouse, Parchment, Scrip Safe) you may have them sent directly from the institution at registrar@uoregon.edu.

Note: we cannot accept PDF attachments via email directly from the applicant or the institution.

Option 4

If you earned your degree(s) outside of the United States you may choose to submit a WES ICAP evaluation, which includes verified copies of your official transcripts and degree certificates. We do not require evaluation except when we are unable to determine your degree's equivalency, though we will accept these types of evaluations to fulfill the transcript requirement if you have already obtained one. To electronically submit your WES ICAP to the University of Oregon, follow the instructions provided by WES.

Note: We will not accept the WES Basic or any other credential evaluation to fulfill the transcript requirement. Only the WES ICAP meets this requirement.

Option 5

If you cannot access or transmit official documents due to extenuating circumstances and do not already have a qualifying evaluation report to send, please contact the Division of Graduate Studies to discuss your situation.

Common Scenarios

  • Degree in Progress: If you have not yet finished your degree at the time of application, upload the most up to date version of your transcript. If you are admitted, you will need to send your final transcript after your degree is conferred.
  • No Degree Earned at Previous Institution: The Division of Graduate Studies does NOT require official transcripts from institutions where you did not earn a bachelor's degree or higher (e.g., community college work, work you transferred in to your degree-granting school.). However, you must upload unofficial transcripts from these institutions as part of your application.
  • University of Oregon Degree: If you are offered admission and matriculate into your program, you do not need to send your University of Oregon transcript to the Office of the Registrar.
  • International Degree: If you earned a bachelor’s degree or higher at an international institution, there may be additional documentation required.
    • Degree Certificates: Many international transcripts do not list the degree earned and the degree conferral date – in this case, you must also submit official degree certificates.
    • English Translations: If your international transcript and/or degree certificate is issued in a language other than English, we will need certified word-for-word English translations of these documents.

The translation must be mailed by the translating agency directly to the University of Oregon or issued by the translating agency to you in an envelope bearing the stamp, seal or official signature of the translating agency and placed in a larger envelope, unopened, and mailed to the University of Oregon.

Original-language documents received from the translating agency will not be accepted as official.
