The Craft Center is thrilled to welcome Laura McClain as our Spring 2026 Visiting Artist. Laura McClain is a wet felting artist and educator who works with wool to create functional and expressive décor, accessories, and wearables. At the heart of her practice is a method she calls Felt by Feel—a playful, embodied conversation between maker and material that allows her to stay connected to the wool’s changing textures, while tapping into her own responses as the work evolves. Laura has been creating with fiber arts since childhood and brings a balance of technical knowledge, curiosity, and fun to her teaching. Wet Felting Workshop: April 24, 1pm-4pm This hands-on workshop introduces wet felting, guiding you as you transform soft wool fibers into a strong, cohesive piece of felt. Using merino wool, water, soap, heat, and pressure, you’ll layer, embellish, and shape fibers by hand while learning how the material changes at each stage. This workshop is free. Registration is required at myemu.uoregon.edu. You must have a UO ID or Community Card to register. Space is limited.

Scoobi is an undocumented-law-student-love-child of the Zapatista rebellion of 1994. Petra, her mother, a former revolutionary is also undocumented. Dylan O’Reilly, is Scoobi’s ticket to citizenship. This odd trio navigates personal and political borders on the heels of Scoobi’s marriage of inconvenience to Dylan. Oh yes, Roko, the soldier-ghost of Scoobi’s soulmate is hanging out too.

Volunteer at UO's only student-led community garden. Nearly every Sunday from 2-4 pm at the Grove Community Garden (1605 Moss Street - just behind Global Scholars Hall). 

Work parties are when we come together to collectively care for the space. We have raised beds and other planting areas that are managed by the overall community to produce food (mainly vegetables) for the student food pantry, the SSC Produce Drop, and of course (and often primarily) those who come each week to volunteer. So, a typical work party may include harvesting food, weeding beds, sowing seeds/transplanting starts, chipping a wood path, etc. There is no signup ahead of time, the only prep beforehand is dressing for the weather in clothes you don't mind some dirt/sweat on.  Sign up for our newsletter for weekly reminders and updates, and follow us on Instagram too!
