Duties:

We are seeking two highly skilled and innovative UO graduate students to join the lab of computer scientist, Dr. Beth Plale. The individuals will work under the guidance of Dr. Plale and senior staff and contribute to the objectives of the NSF AI Institute for Intelligent Cyberinfrastructure with Computational Learning in the Environment (ICICLE). 1. Graduate student (#1) technical will develop novel algorithms and software to advance data management for AI accountability in the edge-cloud-high performance computing continuum. As part of this role, they will carry out experimental performance evaluations under the guidance of senior members of the lab, develop early hands-on competency to evaluate, compare, and integrate related technologies, and contribute to the outreach and workforce development objectives of the lab. Graduate student (#2) impacts will work with Dr. Plale and the Broader Impacts Backbone Network (BIBN) team of the ICICLE Institute to develop and deliver learning materials for use in workforce development and training efforts of the ICICLE institute. Plale oversees the Broader Impacts Backbone Network (BIBN) of the ICICLE Institute which focuses on amplifying the impacts of ICICLE Institute innovations.

Preferred Qualifications:

Graduate student (#1) technical has or is working towards a master’s degree in computer science or related field, has had coursework in distributed systems and/or operating systems, and experience in carrying out experimental performance evaluations. Prior relevant work experience (in industry or non-profit sector) is ideal. Graduate student (#2) impacts will have experience in developing and delivering short-form learning through technology platforms. Experience in data sciences is helpful. An ideal candidate has relevant coursework in the School of Education (such as the UOTeach program) and a specialization in educational data science. See this for an example.
