In memory of Eric Englund, this award supports doctoral students who have received either their bachelor’s or master’s degree from UO and whose research focuses on American literature, American history, or closely related subjects.

Eligibility
- Doctoral students, regardless of immigration status or work eligibility, who have advanced to candidacy and have received committee approval to conduct dissertation research.
- Received a bachelor’s or master’s degree from UO.
- Research focuses on American literature, American history, or closely related subjects.
- Must be making satisfactory academic progress toward completion of degree requirements. Review the Division of Graduate Studies' satisfactory progress requirement for details.
- Must be enrolled full time at the time of award disbursement.
Award Details
- The fellowship will take place in Fall 2027.
- Students must be enrolled full-time, pursuing a UO graduate degree, and making satisfactory academic progress at the time of disbursement.
- Awards cannot be deferred.

Application Requirements
Applications for this award must be submitted through the UO Scholarship Dashboard. Only complete applications will be considered.
- One statement (500 words or less) directed to an audience of non-specialists that includes:
- A description of your research
- A description of the impact of your research on society
- A description of the implications of your research in your field
- A list of all awards, grants, scholarships, and other funding you have received while enrolled at UO, including the dollar amount and the period each source of support covered
- Two recommendations completed through the UO Scholarship Dashboard by:
- The chair of your dissertation committee
- A faculty member on your dissertation committee

Award Amount
One term fellowship including full-time tuition waiver, monthly salary, mandatory fees subsidy, and subsidized health insurance premiums, including coverage for eligible dependents
