Sandra Morgen (1950-2016) taught Sociology and Anthropology at the University of Oregon from 1991 to 2006 and helped to found the Society for North American Anthropology. In memory of Sandra Morgen and her outstanding contributions, this award supports master’s, doctoral, and law students whose research demonstrates the potential for significant societal impact. Eligible projects span areas such as social justice, economic opportunity, well-being, cultural engagement, political participation, or scientific and technical solutions to pressing social issues.

Eligibility
- Master’s, doctoral, and law students, regardless of immigration status or work eligibility who have completed at least one year of graduate study at the time of award disbursement.
- Must be making satisfactory academic progress toward completion of degree requirements. Review the Division of Graduate Studies' satisfactory progress requirement for details.
- Must be enrolled full time at the time of award disbursement.
Award Details
- $6,000 will be disbursed over one academic year to student’s UO Student Billing Account in equal installments (3 terms or 2 semesters, not including summer terms).
- Students must be enrolled full-time, pursuing a UO graduate degree, and making satisfactory academic progress at the time of disbursement.
- Awards cannot be deferred.

Applications for this award must be submitted through the UO Scholarship Dashboard. Only complete applications will be considered.
- One statement (500 words or less) directed to an audience of non-specialists that includes:
- A description of your research
- A description of the potential impact of your research on improving economic opportunity and well-being, scientific or technical solutions, social justice, political participation, or cultural engagement of a specific community
- A description of the implications of your research in your field
- A list of all awards, grants, scholarships, and other funding you have received while enrolled at UO, including the dollar amount and the period each source of support covered
- Two recommendations completed through the UO Scholarship Dashboard by:
- Primary UO faculty advisor
- Faculty member
