2024-25 Promising Scholars and Future Stewards Announced

At the University of Oregon, the pursuit of knowledge thrives on the brilliance and diversity of our graduate students. This year, the Division is honored to welcome 19 exceptional incoming graduate students as recipients of the Future Stewards and Promising Scholar Awards, two of the UO’s most distinguished recognitions for academic promise, leadership potential, and commitment to community. Together, these awards underscore the university’s unwavering commitment to fostering a graduate community that is diverse and excellent.
The Future Stewards Award reflects a powerful partnership between the UO, the nine federally recognized tribes of Oregon, and Native American tribes across the United States. More than an award, it is a shared investment in future leaders and an opportunity to support Indigenous scholars with goals and vision to return to their tribal communities as cultural guardians, educators, and catalysts for sustainable development.
To myself and my tribe, receiving the Future Steward Award is very encouraging. It affirms my commitment to using my legal education to advocate for and uplift my tribe.
- Future Steward Kiyava Deville, Law
The Promising Scholar Award is granted to outstanding incoming graduate students whose diverse experiences and academic promise enrich our campus and drive innovation for the greater good. Since 1996, over 600 graduate students from all UO schools and colleges have received this award. Each recipient brings a unique story, rooted in inspiration and driven by the desire to make meaningful changes through research and service.
I hope to bridge the gap between special education research and practice and improve the quality of life for people with special needs.
