Book your flights

  • If you are coming to the U.S. with an F-1 or J-1 visa, you may enter the U.S. up to 30 days before the program start date on your I-20 or DS02019. You may not arrive earlier than this date.
  • If possible, allow a lot of time between connecting flights: If you need to fly from your port of entry (LAX, SFO, PDX, SEA or DEN) to Eugene (EUG) allow for at least a 2 or 3 hour layover. Sometimes, Customs can take a long time. Plus, you will have to pick-up your check-in suitcase and re-check it for the next domestic connection.

Notify ISSS of Your Plans

Please confirm your arrival plans by following the instructions below. **If you find you are unable to join us, please notify your graduate program and ISSS at intl@uoregon.edu.

  • Log into your international student portal (iConnect) with your Duck ID and submit the “New Student Arrival Plan” eform.

Submit proof of immunizations/ vaccinations

You are required to submit documentation of required immunization (vaccines) and a Tuberculosis (TB) Screening Questionnaire before your arrival to the U.S. You will not be able to register for classes until you meet these requirements. Please complete the following steps before arrival, if possible.

  1. Contact your doctor and request documentation that you have received the required vaccines to study in the U.S. If your doctor cannot provide you with documentation, please ask your doctor to complete the UO Certificate of Immunization Status form.
  2. Once you have the documentation or UO Certificate of Immunization Status from your doctor, log into myUOHealth with your DuckID and enter the dates of your completed vaccines and upload the documentation from your doctor.
  3. Log into myUOHealth and complete the “Tuberculosis (TB) Screening Questionnaire” in the "Forms" section. If you are at a higher risk of TB, you will be notified by the UO Health Center with further instructions.

For instructions on how to use the myUOHealth portal, click HERE

If you cannot complete all of the required vaccines in your home country prior to arrival, you will be required to get the vaccines at the UO Health Center and will be charged accordingly. You cannot register for classes until this requirement is met. We strongly recommend you complete all vaccines prior to arrival.

  • Note: International grad students are required to submit documentation of required immunization (vaccines) and a TB questionnaire before arrival in the U.S. There is also a registration hold on your student account specifically for the Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) vaccine. You will need to submit your proof of MMR vaccine to remove this hold in order to register. All other vaccines can be submitted up until the start of term.

If you have any questions, please contact the UO Health Center at immunization@uoregon.edu.

Housing

Activity

Secure Housing or Consider Alternatives

Students should begin to finalize their housing arrangements around two months before their arrival into the United States or begin to consider a backup plan. If you are still awaiting information on a University Housing unit, please be patient as Housing staff offers units as soon as the date of availability is confirmed. Reach out to University Housing for any additional help.

If your lease starts after your arrival date, you will need to secure temporary housing in the interim (e.g., a hotel, AirBnB, homestay, etc.).
