after you've published?
As a graduate student, publishing an article is a major milestone—congratulations! To make the most of your work, be sure to complete a few key follow-up tasks. These steps will help ensure your research is accessible, your intellectual property is protected, and your scholarship continues to grow.
Be accessible
Accessibility is crucial to amplify your impact and serve your communities. You can make sure that your research remains accessible to the public and larger audiences across disciplines by creating a Google Scholar profile and adding your publication there.
Google Scholar provides free, broad access to academic literature across disciplines and publication outlets and allows users to find and track scholarly research.
Be protected
Make sure your scholarship is properly credited by creating an ORCID. ORCID gives you a unique digital identifier that distinguishes you from others with similar names. It links your publications, research activities, and organizational affiliations across your academic career, helping you safeguard your work and ensuring you receive recognition for your contributions.
Be collaborative
Expand your academic network by connecting with others who share your research interests. Creating a PIVOT profile helps you:
- find potential collaborators, both locally and globally.
- discover funding opportunities from public and private sources.
- advance your scholarship and innovation through strategic partnerships.
Be funded
Now that your publication has strengthened your CV and research proposal, consider applying for additional funding to further advance your scholarship. The Division of Graduate Studies offers awards ranging from $2,000 to $10,000 to support research, travel, living expenses, and more.
Securing external funding is also crucial for significantly enhancing your research and fostering long-term career growth.
