Sergio Alejandro Marin

S. Alejandro is a first-year Ph.D. student in the Romance Languages Department planning to research how Latin American literature portrays its culture as well as the Latin American Theater.

Originally from Bogotá, Colombia, Alejandro graduated from Libre University with a B.A. in Modern Languages before moving to Flagstaff, Arizona to complete his Master of Arts in Teaching Spanish. During his tenure, Alejandro earned a prestigious scholarship to engage with Northern Arizona University students abroad by teaching both lower-division and upper-division Spanish classes in San José, Costa Rica.

A native Spanish speaker, with high proficiencies in English, Alejandro has been taking language classes since 2010. He is particularly motivated and interested in studying languages in order to read original literary texts without translations. In addition to Spanish and English, he has studied French, Italian, and Portuguese.

Alejandro is honored to have been selected as a recipient of the Raymund Fellowship. With this generous support, he will accomplish his long-term goal of continuing to research Latin American literature as it relates to culture. Additionally, Alejandro is excited by the prospect of teaching literature courses focused on the interpretation of texts and critical analysis, especially contemporary texts by Latin American and U.S. Latino writers.
