The Division of Graduate Studies is seeking an innovative and creative graduate student to work in support of the Division’s mission to foster excellence, innovation, and inclusive communities in graduate education. Specifically, the Communications GE will work closely with staff of the Division of Graduate Studies and UO Central Communications to carry out the Division’s communications needs.

Duties:

  • Design and produce digital/print publications for Division events and communications; provide design expertise for publications and materials; provide related technical support to staff;
  • Produce web & social media communications (e.g., Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Versatile PhD);
  • Assist with Division website content development and design;
  • Draft and oversee dissemination of Division’s weekly newsletter communications;
  • Assist in development of communication strategies for Division events, such as: New Graduate Student Orientation and Mandatory Training, the annual Graduate Student Research Forum, professional development and recruitment events;
  • Assist in development of communication strategies for graduate student recruitment, including marketing materials (fliers, videos, etc.), email correspondence, social media outreach, etc.
  • Work with Division Directors to develop best practices toolkits for distribution to academic programs;
  • Support all communications efforts through the completion of other duties as assigned.  

Eligibility:

University of Oregon graduate students pursuing a master's or doctoral degree in any discipline are eligible to apply.

Preference will be given to graduate students whose application materials exhibit the following qualifications and experience:

  • Extensive experience with Adobe Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator, Mail Chimp, and demonstrated skills in desktop publishing;
  • Demonstrated experience with Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and other social media;
  • Demonstrated experience with website development and content management;
  • Excellent communication skills with regard to writing, editing, research, and presentation;
  • Experience summarizing and simplifying complex information, and communicating it to different audiences;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of digital design;
  • Professional experience and/or successfully completed coursework in public relations, advertising, communications, etc.;
  • Strong time management, organizational skills;
  • Demonstrated understanding of event and project management. Willingness to participate and support staff on event days;
  • Excellent professionalism and interpersonal skills to interview and produce news stories relevant to graduate education at the UO, work collaboratively with stakeholders, and problem solve.
