If you are interested in attending, complete the form at http://ow.ly/mkmO50Nzuth by April 8th, 2023. Mills Learning Cafés are small group-learning communities that meet every week for one term to share perspectives and stories of how we relate to the topic. To center Indigenous voices, content for this Learning Café comes from Indigenous educators, scientists, and thinkers through stories and teachings written, spoken, and read by Native authors, educators, and speakers. Our resources include books, talks, and publications by Dr. Michelle M. Jacob; Dr. Robin Wall Kimmerer (on plants as teachers); and Dr. Jo-ann Archibald (on Indigenous Storywork, including its seven principles and becoming story-ready). Learning Café’s learning environment is welcoming, inclusive, and learner-centered; and sessions are focused on dialogue. It’s a learning journey that builds on itself, so please try to attend (nearly) all sessions. Our aim is to help non-indigenous people expand our understandings and perspectives beyond those of the dominant US culture. We use group norms that support an environment of inquiry with open mind; respect for different cultures and backgrounds; respect for not knowing; respect for mistakes, including our own; and expecting non-closure in discussions/stories/learning.
