Duties:
Duties will include attending research meetings, co-writing research design and instruments,
independently conducting background research (online, interviews), data management,
conducting lit reviews, writing progress reports.
Coding interviews in NVivo and working on journal publications.
Skills that will be developed during their experience: research methodologies, interviewing,
content and discourse analysis, survey, coding, and research writing skills.
Some travel is expected in this position that may include day trips, overnight, and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications:
Minimum/Necessary Requirements:
• Interest and commitment to unpacking and advancing justice, access, & equity, considerations across scales of government in planning, policy, and environmental science fields
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, excellent at note taking
• Strong writing and oral communication skills as demonstrated through their CV and cover letter
• Ability to take initiative and work independently
• Excellent Computer skills (Excel, Word). Experience creating and managing an excel database is a plus.
• Experience engaging diverse stakeholder groups including government agencies, community organizations, and the broader public
• Strong analytical and applied research skills (e.g. data collection, research methods, etc.)
• Graphic design and data visualization skills
Desired/Preferred Qualifications (not required):
• Working knowledge of Federal Emergency Management Agency Hazard Mitigation Assistance programs
• Working knowledge of emergency management and hazards plans such as NHMPs, CWPPs, and Emergency Operations Plans (EOPs)
• Designing and implementing stakeholder engagement
• Prior research experiences, specify type: qualitative or quantitative research methods
• Prior experience coding data in qualitative data software analysis program such as NVivo
• Familiarity with teams and zoom
• Highly motivated to do the detailed and at times tedious work needed to publish
