Award Details
- Up to $2,000 will be awarded to each student.
Eligibility and Criteria
- Master's, doctoral, and law students.
- Must be enrolled full time at the time of award distribution.
- Must have received committee approval to conduct dissertation or thesis research.
This award is designed to provide support that would (a) advance the students’ completion of thesis or dissertation research that has been approved by their academic program thesis or dissertation committee or (b) assist the student with traveling to present their research to a professional audience beyond the UO.
- Examples of research activities and expenses include, but are not limited to:
- Registration for and travel to a specialized conference for the purposes of presenting the research
- Purchase of unique and specialized equipment, services, consultations or materials needed to advance research
- Field or discipline-specific instructor/facilitator training needed to advance research
Application
Applicants must apply online. The online application includes:
- A statement of 500 words or less summarizing the dissertation or thesis research activities for which the funding is requested. The statement should explain why this is a unique opportunity and how it will advance your dissertation or thesis completion.
- A budget for the proposed activity, no more than 1 page
- Recommendations from 2 faculty members:
- Enter recommenders' contact information on the application. They will receive an email with a link to provide their recommendations.
- One letter from your primary faculty advisor
- One letter from another UO faculty member
- The letters should characterize your past academic achievements, evaluate the proposed activity, and describe how the activity will contribute to your dissertation or thesis progress

Graduate Students with Financial Aid
Receiving this award may reduce your financial aid award. Please contact the Financial Aid Office prior to applying for this (and any other type of) support.
You may apply for this award regardless of immigration status or work eligibility.
Selection Process and Timeline
- Applications will be evaluated by a subcommittee of the Graduate Council.
- Award decision date to be announced April 2025.
- The $2,000 award will be disbursed to the student at the beginning of Fall 2025.
- During AY 2025-26, all awardees may receive a follow-up survey confirming the use of the funds and asking about their experience. The Division of Graduate Studies may use this information to improve future funding opportunities and/or feature awardees on their website or social media.
