Overview

The Eric Englund Graduate Scholarship provides support for graduate students studying in the field of American literature, American history, or closely related subjects.


Award Details

  • Each award is $5,000. 
  • Funds will be disbursed to student billing account in equal installments in Fall 2025, Winter 2026, and Spring 2026.

Eligibility and Criteria

  • Currently enrolled Master's, Doctoral, or Law student who is writing their capstone, thesis, or dissertation. 
  • Enrolled full time at the time of award distribution.
  • Strong academic record.
  • Making satisfactory academic progress toward completion of degree requirements. Review the Division of Graduate Studies' satisfactory progress requirement.

Application

Applicants must apply online. The online application includes:

  • A 600-word statement describing your scholarship, the aspects of American literature, American History, or related subject that your scholarship focuses on, and the potential contributions of your work. 
  • 1 letter of recommendation from the designated UO faculty advisor:
    • Enter recommender's contact information on the application; they will receive an email with a link to upload their letter.
    • The letter must describe the student's area of interest and verify that the student is making satisfactory progress per Division of Graduate Studies' requirements.
  • 1 letter of recommendation from another UO faculty member:
    • Enter recommender's contact information on the application; they will receive an email with a link to upload their letter.
    • The letter should describe the student's academic progress and area of interest.
