Leslie Selcer

Leslie Selcer is a doctoral student in the English department at the University of Oregon. Her scholarly fields include contemporary American culture and politics, critical literacy and theory, and intersectional feminist studies—with a special emphasis on mechanisms of power and oppression in discourse.

Her liberatory pedagogies focus on cultivating personal agency through literacy practices which interrogate the socialization of entertainment media, news, and digital culture. Leslie has written on everything from selfies to racial capitalism.

Before coming to the University of Oregon, she graduated summa cum laude from the University of Colorado Boulder with a bachelor’s degree in English literature and a teaching certificate in secondary English Language Arts (2016).

In her spare time, Leslie writes opinions for the Daily Emerald and teaches undergraduate writing at UO.
