Duties:
The IPRE Research Assistant GE will support research activities of the NSF Engines Development Award: Advancing Mass Timber Technologies (OR, WA) strategic planning process with a focus on data analysis and visualization, professional writing, and graphic design. Given the timeline of the project, many of the data collection methods have already been designed and implemented. This position will require the ability to synthesize existing information collected from primary data sources, identify relevant content from plan and document review, finalize a SWOT analysis, communicate key findings to an array of audiences, and design a visually compelling and accessible plan. The GE may also complete other miscellaneous tasks and research as identified in the project scope of work such as background research, project coordination, and partner or research team meetings.
IPRE Research Assistant GE is responsible for managing their assigned project tasks and communicating progress with the IPRE faculty director. The GE will work independently to draft or modify deliverable content. The IPRE faculty director will provide guidance, support, and mentorship regarding project management and communication systems as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Minimum Requirements:
• Outstanding written and oral communication abilities
• Ability to work independently
• Detail-oriented and organized
• Strong analytical and applied research skills (e.g., content analysis, SWOT analysis, data collection and management, etc.)
• Demonstrated skill in the use of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Demonstrated skill in graphic design and data visualization
• Familiarity or prior experience in strategic planning
Desired Qualifications (not required):
• Experience drafting and editing local planning documents (or comparable documents)
• Project management capabilities (scheduling logistics, planning, coordination of events, managing
timelines and deadlines)
• Advanced skills in graphic design and data visualization
• Competency in ArcGIS software, analysis, and mapping
• Competency in Adobe InDesign, photoshop or equivalent
• Familiarity or prior experience with the following topics related to mass timber, architecture,
engineering, construction, policy development, manufacturing, forest management, workforce
development, technical training, education, affordable housing, and climate resilience.
