Teaching Graduate Employee - Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies

Duties:

Seeking 3 - 4 qualified applicants for Graduate Employee Teaching positions at .49 FTE for the 2023-24 academic year (fall 2023, winter 2024, and spring 2024). The successful candidates will act as section leaders for WGS 101, an introductory Women's and Gender Studies course in fall quarter, and will teach this course independently as instructors of record in winter and spring terms. Responsibilities include class administration, lectures, office hours, weekly sessions with faculty supervisors, and evaluation and grading of students' performance. Class times will be scheduled throughout the week.

Graduate students pursuing any master’s or doctoral degree may apply.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Registration in the Department of Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies’ graduate certificate program.
  2. Substantial background in intersectional women's and gender studies.
  3. Record of academic excellence and/or important experience in intersectional women's and gender issues.
  4. Experience collaborating and grading preferred.
  5. Strong interdisciplinary background.
  6. Cross-cultural sensitivity.
  7. Ability to work independently.
  8. Teaching experience is preferred.

  • A statement by the candidate which clearly states if they are looking for a teaching GE, grading GE or both, then outlining interests, qualifications, future goals in women's and gender studies (samples of syllabi and textbooks are available if requested from the Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies office at wgs@uoregon.edu);
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • A one-page narrative describing your approach to teaching one of the topics included in the WGS 101 syllabus.
  • If available, teaching evaluations from any previously taught courses.
  • Unofficial transcripts;
  • At least two letters of recommendation, one of which must be from the applicant’s advisor and must address student’s progress toward degree; these should be sent by the recommenders directly to wgs@uoregon.edu.

Finalist interviews are planned for Week 2 of spring term.
