Tentative Summer Offer Procedures

  • Ask GEs to indicate interest in summer work at any time during the academic year
  1. Issue a tentative summer offer pursuant to Article 19, Section 4 of the CBA. This offer can be made contingent on sufficient enrollment in a course or sufficient funding for non-instructional work.
  • Tentative summer offers can be rescinded without penalty up to four weeks prior to the start of the summer session in which the work is scheduled to commence.
  • If a tentative offer is rescinded later than four weeks prior to the start of the summer session which work is scheduled to commence, the GE will be entitled to a payment of $300 in consideration of work performed preparing for the assignment

Appointment Changes after Notice of Appointment is Issued

  • Rescinding a Formal Offer: After approval of the PRF by the Division of Graduate Studies, the position is formally offered via issuance of a Notice of Appointment (NOA). Once the NOA is issued, there is a 10 day rescission period (Article 17, Section 4).
  • Changing an Assignment: The CBA provides guidance regarding changes to assignment as a result of increase/decrease of course enrollment in Article 9—Work Agreement/Work Assignment—Section 3.
  • Layoff: GEs may not be laid off due to a class being cancelled as a result of inadequate course enrollment. Layoff is defined in Article 21 as a separation from university service during the period of a GE appointment due to a reduction in force or a reduction in a department for financial or academic reasons.
