Kiyava Deville, Nez Perce (nimíipuu) and Aleut, is a Law student studying environmental, Tribal, and Indian law. To her, studying at the University of Oregon means being close to the community she grew up in and staying connected to the land her family lived on for generations. She currently serves as a Native Environmental Sovereignty Project (NESP) fellow and the Director of the Native American Law Student Association (NALSA).
After graduation, she seeks to use her law degree to help those in need, especially those from marginalized tribal communities. She believes that using her law degree to serve tribal communities would be fulfilling and rewarding. To herself and her tribe, receiving the Future Steward Award is encouraging; it affirms her commitment to using her legal education to advocate for and uplift her tribe.
